How I Built My Business With Absolutely Nothing

Nov 01, 2019

What's It About...

Let’s time travel!

In this episode, we are taking you back to the year 2009 - the year I decided to start my own business out of absolutely nothing.

But before we even get to that moment, Eddie and I are going to explain some of the reasons why we had to completely reinvent ourselves and let go of some of our biggest dreams. Yea, you read that right - we had to walk away from some of our dreams.

Imagine that you’re starting a life with your partner in a new home, with a new baby, a recently acquired mortgage and you both going on their way up in the corporate ladder.

Now imagine that the country is going through one of the worst financial periods in history and you both lose your jobs at the same time.

Now, you...

 are struggling financially

you can’t afford your mortgage anymore

your relationship is being strained

and there is no other option for you other than staying home taking...

How And Why You'll Ruin Your Kids No Matter What You Do

Oct 31, 2019

What's It About...

If we told you that, no matter how hard you try to be the perfect parent, you're going to ruin your child - how would that make you feel?

In the 4th episode of this podcast, we are jumping right into one of those topics that people don't like talking about.

Parenting. That's the topic of our conversation today.

We are sharing some of our most important bits of knowledge about parenting and, we've figured out that the best way to do it, is by tracking down those outstandingly significant experiences that all of us had with our parents that marked our path into becoming the parents that we are today.

We think that stepping back and looking deep into your own childhood can have some of the best lessons on how you should raise your child.

This doesn't mean copy/paste everything your parents did to your kids.

That's a recipe for disaster.

Just like we discussed in our episode on marriage, the world of today is way different than the world you were raised in, so...

Love, Marriage... And Divorce

Oct 29, 2019

What's It About...

Whether you are married or not - you NEED to listen to this episode!

There is so much that people don’t ever seem to mention about marriage. It seems to either be all sunshine and roses or dark and doom.

And with how fast everything is changing in our current society - i.e. social media, technology, societal norms, etc - nothing you read and were thought that isn’t based on information in the last few years is useless.

Marriage is such a complex thing and you must go into knowing a few things.

One of those is - there will be A LOT of things you do NOT agree on.

And that’s ok.

We’ve had countless disagreements over the course of our marriage including things like, how do we discipline our kids and how we deal with crying babies. And whether it was the kids arguing or them crying as babies - we had one rule.

The Golden Rule: Anything we do or say to each other, we must be...

What's It About...

Is personal development a priority for you?

I mean, is it REALLY a priority for you?

The definition of Wikipedia is…

Personal development covers activities that improve awareness and identity, develop talents and potential, build human capital and facilitate employability, enhance the quality of life and contribute to the realization of dreams and aspirations

Personal development takes place over the course of a person's entire life.

It’s not a quick fix.

It’s not a single book.

It’s not one conference.

It’s not one workout or meditation session.

It's the constant pursuit of a better version of yourself.

This is one of our favorite subjects and we are going to be diving deep into it on this episode.

If you’ve ever wondered...

  • What is personal development?
  • What’s the best way to...

What's It About...

For the past two years, we have kicked around the idea of starting a podcast. As podcast junkies, we understood the power of them to get a message out to the masses and make an impact, but we just could never get it off the ground.

Have you ever had any projects like that?

We’d dive in, then life would take over and other projects would gain priority.

Well, we finally got tired of that and said, damn it, we are doing this.

We committed!

In this episode, we are giving you a first formal taste of The Push Podcast and we’re so excited because we have SO MUCH we wanna cover with you! Such as…

  • Personal growth
  • Parenting
  • Marriage
  • Finances
  • Starting your own business
  • Vulnerability
  • Communication
  • Parenting

...and the list goes on and on!

One of the big areas we will focus on will be personal development. Doubling down on this has made a HUGE impact on both of our lives!

There so many...

Let's talk about #PRIDE!๐ŸŒˆ (*WARNING: This might be A LOT for you!๐Ÿ˜ณ๐ŸŒˆ)

Jun 06, 2019

With this month being #PrideMonth, I wanted to take the time to shed some light on what appears to be a “touchy subject” for some.

I have employed MANY gay employees over the past 15 years.

I have served and supported MANY gay couples over the past 10 years at The Cake Mamas.

I have attended and have been HONORED to have made some of my best friends from these experiences. I’ve had the privilege of attending their weddings (and making their cakes!), their anniversary parties, their birthday parties, and a host of other amazing life celebrations.

I’ve done this all while maintaining my Christian faith and maintaining my own personal relationship with God.

See, 50 years ago, you were either BLACK or WHITE.

But I wouldn't have fit in ANYWHERE 50 years ago...

I am Filipino, Hawaiian, Italian, French, Portuguese, a bunch of other things, and even a little Japanese. When I was growing up,...

BLOG POST #13: Never give up! Never lose faith!

Apr 02, 2019

Never give up! Never lose faith! Everything happens for a reason... Right?! I'm a firm believer of this saying... We may not understand why we have to walk a certain path or why when it rains, it pours but trust that God has a plan! "Walk by faith, not by sight."

We must lose in order to gain. Lessons are best taught through our darkest hour. Through crying and defeat. Through sorrow and loss. All of my pain or sadness has only built my strength, soul, character and wisdom. One day, all of our trials and tribulations will add up and make perfect sense.

Until that day comes, learn to laugh at confusion and dance in the rain. "The pain that you have been feeling, can't compare to the joy that's coming" Romans 8:18

Because someone really needs this reminder today! - Janelle Copeland

BLOG POST #4: No money. No business...BS

Dec 19, 2018

There’s a message that’s been sitting on my heart.

I think it might be for you.

In case you didn’t know, I started my business with NO MONEY. My husband and I had lost our jobs and had $0 coming in. We went from 2 six-figure incomes to absolutely NOTHING!

When I tell you that it was the BIGGEST BLESSING of my life, it is no lie!

I know it sounds crazy, but NOT having the money you need to start your business can be the biggest blessing of all!

Why?

Because you’ll be resourceful, you’ll leverage every relationship and connection you have! You’ll be scrappy, frugal and you’ll stretch every penny! And you’ll work your ASS OFF! (IF you really want it that bad!)

*I often talk about the fact that businesses REQUIRE money to start. But can it be done with very little? YES. It will just take a little longer to grow. (SO WHAT!?!? That’s called being faithful over few! But more about that later!)

And if you don’t believe...

BLOG POST #16: My Fitness Journey

Dec 03, 2018

In Jan 2014 my "NY's Resolution" was to focus more on myself and the things that made me happy. Like working out, feeling good in my clothes (and OUT of my clothes too), having more energy, and getting to a place where I COULD be consistent and juggle everything (my business, my fitness goals, my family's health, kids, relationships, career, etc, etc.)

I struggled with prioritizing and managing my time around my fitness goals until around August 2014. (MOMMIES always come last!) But in August, I told myself that “I HAD to get my life together" and revise my plan! So I started waking up between 4:45-5AM every day to MAKE my workouts a priority. And I stuck with it.

YES, I know that waking up before dawn COMPLETELY SUCKS! BUT, when you want something that bad, and you are 100% committed to it, and when your original plan DOESN’T work, then you change the plan, suck it up, and do what’s necessary!

In November, after attending my cousin Vickie's bodybuilding show,...
