Let’s have a real BUSINESS conversation today… because this topic? It gets me fired up. And if you’re a small business owner (especially in the baking industry or specialize in custom creations), you need to hear this.

Would you rather make...
Think about that. REALLY think about it.
Because too many of you are choosing volume over value, and it’s costing you more than you realize.
Lemme be BLUNT for a sec… If OTHER people wanna spend all their time making a cake, only to sell it BELOW WHAT IT COSTS THEM TO MAKE IT, because “people won’t pay more,” or the “cost of living is too high,” then by all means, let them ruin their own lives. BUT you’re here reading this, so lemme extend a lifeline to you.
I’ve heard it all…
“People around here won’t pay that.”
“The cost of living is ruining my sales.”
“The economy SUCKS.”
“If I raise my prices, I won’t have ANY customers.”
Listen friend, cause I say this with love- but you’re not pricing your cakes based on FACTS, you’re pricing them based on fear.
And fear is a TERRIBLE business strategy.
I grew up in a low-income area.
I started my business in the middle of the 2009 financial crisis.
And what I’ve found is people will STILL find ways to celebrate. Whether it’s with a cake, cookie, cupcake, or whatever you offer… because people can be in the WORST financial situation possible, and they will still find a way to celebrate.
Let me give the HARD TRUTH about what really happens when you keep pricing your cakes below what they cost to make:
And for what?? To stay “affordable”? To not upset strangers on the internet?
No other business stays afloat by selling below cost. NONE.
So why are you trying to?
Either way, it’s NOT GOOD BUSINESS, so it doesn’t make any sense (or CENTS!) to NOT CHARGE ACCORDINGLY!
Furthermore, you need to STOP running your business like a bake sale.
If I was trying to sell a product or service and people were NOT willing to pay for it, I would NOT waste my time making it. I would tell myself to use my time and talents on SOMETHING ELSE (maybe another product or service) that would allow me to make a PROFIT off of my time and talents.
You can’t keep funding everyone else’s celebrations at your expense. You’re over here working yourself into the ground, calling it "serving your community." Friend, that’s not noble. It’s unsustainable.
This isn’t a hobby. This is your BUSINESS. Treat it like one. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
