How to Market Your Bakery Business So Customers Actually Find You (and Keep Coming Back)

If you want your baking business to BLOW UP, this is how you need to approach marketing in your business…

And no- I don’t mean posting more on Instagram and hoping you go viral.

I don’t mean throwing money at ads you don’t understand or even know will work.

And I definitely don’t mean copying what another baker is doing and hoping it works just as well for you.

The bakeries that seem to EXPLODE overnight aren’t focusing on those things. They’re focused on understanding how customers actually find you, choose you, and come back again and again.

Because let’s be real sis…

If people aren’t finding your bakery, then they can’t order from you.

And if they order once but never come back?

You don’t have a talent or a product problem.

You have a marketing process problem.

And the solution?

The funnel.

Before you exit out of this blog because you think I’m gonna spew some tech-guru nonsense on you, a funnel is just the path customers take from finding you → trusting you → buying from you → coming back.

Let Me Explain the Funnel

At the top of the funnel, you have people who don’t know you exist.

Strangers. Doom Scrollers. Searchers.

As they move down the funnel, they start to notice your business.

They might click on a post, browse your website, and think about moving forward with placing an order.

At the bottom of the funnel is where those potential buyers become customers.

And eventually- lifetime customers. (AKA they continue to purchase from you, year after year.)

This funnel is the KEY to growth in your bakery business.

And if you don’t have a process for every single step of this funnel?

You’ll constantly feel like sales are inconsistent… random… and out of your control.

Top of the Funnel: No One Knows You (And You Have to Accept That)

This is important, so don’t take it personally, but most people do not know your bakery exists. Period.

And if you operate every day like they already do then you’re setting yourself up to struggle.

Your DAILY marketing focus in your business is to get NEW people into the top of your funnel. This is where we’re building visibility and awareness of our businesses.

This is where we would leverage platforms like Pinterest, Instagram, TikTok, Google, or even your local farmers market.)

I always tell my clients to think of this stage in the funnel as TOFU. (Top Of Funnel)

Is tofu exciting? No.

Is it glamorous? Absolutely not.

But if you don’t focus on who’s coming into the top of your funnel, you’ll never have customers to convert.

This should be a constant marketing goal for your business.

Middle of the Funnel: Where Most Bakers Lose the Sale

Now that you’ve got new potential clients into the top of your funnel, we’re gonna proceed through the sales process so that they eventually buy.

So someone finds you.

They click your photo.

They land on your website.

And then what? If all they see on your website is:

“Place your order. Here’s the price.”

You’ve lost them.

This part of the funnel is about connection.

Who are you?

What makes your bakery different?

Why should customers trust you with their money, their event, their celebration?

You have to start thinking like the person behind the keyboard searching.

If your website doesn’t guide them in the right direction or answer their questions, the funnel stops right there.

And most bakers never even realize that’s where the disconnect is with their marketing and sales.

Bottom of the Funnel: The Money Is in the Repeat Customers.

Now let’s talk about the part almost everyone ignores.

Once someone becomes a customer…what do you do next?

For most bakers, nothing.

They order once, and that’s it.

And that is WILD to me.

Because this is where LTV- Lifetime Value- comes in.

When I was running The Cake Mamas, once you became a customer, you were our best friend for life.

Whether you wanted to be or not.

We marketed to you.

We loved on you.

We followed up consistently.

We sent you offers and discounts.

We made it our mission to stay top of mind.

And guess what?

Most of our orders came from repeat customers.

Because as HARD as it is to get a customer from point A to point C in the funnel, you need to do everything in your power to ENSURE that they continue coming back for more.

Just because they found you and made a purchase doesn’t mean the business-to-customer relationship ends there. It’s something that needs to be NURTURED if you want to continue earning their business.

Why Your Marketing Feels Hard Right Now

If marketing your business feels overwhelming, inconsistent, or exhausting, it’s probably because you’re doing random acts of marketing.

You’re posting without a plan, selling without “dating” your customers, and then ghosting them once they do buy.

Following and implementing a marketing funnel like this ensures this doesn’t happen.

It gives you ONE focus:

  • How am I getting people into the top of my funnel?
  • How am I guiding them along their customer journey?
  • How am I keeping them for life?

That’s it.

Once you figure out this secret ingredient, marketing your business feels so much clearer.
