SHE CALLED EDDIE THE N-WORD!!!

Jun 09, 2020

There is so MUCH uncertainty happening all around us right now, with race being at the center of it. For those who don’t know us, Eddie is black, our daughters are black; because of this, our family has had to have discussions over the years about racism and equality for the black community. We’ve had to have discussions about fears when being addressed by law enforcement, we’ve had discussions about our history for the black community, we’ve talked about racism and being judged for the color of their skin. If you aren’t having these discussions with your children right now, THAT’S PRIVILEGE.

For the past few weeks, we’ve been having these discussions on a daily basis, as a family. As a family we’ve been protesting. We’ve been signing petitions. As a family, we’ve been sending emails. We’ve been leveraging our platforms and raising our voices.

BUT even with all that… it’s NOT ENOUGH!

We wanted to make a GREATER impact. WE want to create CHANGE. With that, we’ve officially LAUNCHED our #StandTogether campaign!

From now until June 19th, we’re asking you to TAKE ACTION and help us raise $250,000 to donate to the various organizations who fight against RACISM and INJUSTICE!

All donations raised will be split evenly amongst five different organizations:

  1. Black YOUTH
  2. YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO PROTEST
  3. POLICE REFORM
  4. BLACK LIVES MATTER initiative and movement
  5. The fight against MASS INCARCERATION

You can learn more about our movement and these organizations by visiting janellecopeland.com/standtogether

YES...  It's A LOFTY GOAL! But it we #StandTogether, we can make a HUGE difference!

Our #StandTogether campaign is to not only to bring awareness to the recent injustices that have hit our nation but it is to TAKE A STAND TOGETHER; as all races, all skin colors, and all genders. We cannot stay silent about the things that actually matter. Now is the time to take ACTION, to SPEAK UP, and FIGHT for equality, inclusion, and peace.

WE STAND in solidarity with the fight against systemic racism, white supremacy, and the historic oppression of the Black community.

Our nation, our communities, and our brothers and sisters are hurting. NOW is the time to make our voices heard, and open ourselves and our hearts up to having uncomfortable and difficult, *but necessary* conversations.

In order to ensure this is a MOVEMENT, not just a “trending moment”, we hope you’ll JOIN US in our #StandTogether Charity Fundraiser.

You can find out more information on HOW to get involved at www.janellecopeland.com/standtogether

As for this week on the podcast, we’re continuing our discussion on the #BlackLivesMatter movement and how it’s impacted our family, including our three daughters.

Here’s a breakdown of what Eddie and I discussed…

  • How our household has looked like in the past few days (02:04)
  • Why black people need to educate white people on how they have been oppressed (02:31)
  • My family making me proud and the stance we have taken as a family (05:19)
  • Sacrifice needed from the white majority to achieve equality (11:12)
  • Liberating your mind from white biases and racist thoughts and swallowing white privilege (19:17)
  • How one of our customers called Eddie the N-word and why parents need to have uncomfortable conversations about the reality (20:58)
  • How Jasmine and Kaylah struggled through high school with the N-word
  • Why this is a learning moment for people to understand different perspectives and any biases they may have (31:14)

Our hope with this episode is that you’ll get curious, ask better questions and seek out information about WHAT you can do to help PUSH the movement forward. As uncomfortable as this topic might be for some, it needs to be discussed.

We hope you’ll choose to join us and #StandTogether in the fight against inequality and racial injustice and please share this episode with your friends and family to keep the conversation alive.

Xoxo,

The Copelands
