20 Things I’d do RIGHT NOW to Reinvent My Baking Business and Start Making Money

Jul 29, 2025

Lemme be real, sis!
It’s HARD out here right now for small business owners, especially in the baking and food industries!

Between the rising cost of goods, tariffs, rent increases, supply chain headaches, and trying to find (and keep) reliable help, small business owners are feeling it from all fronts. If it feels like you're constantly putting out fires or barely keeping your head above water, you're not alone.

But here’s the truth I’ve learned after building my baking business for OVER a decade and after coaching thousands of small business owners just like you:
When everything around you is shifting, it’s time to shift WITH it.

So if you’re in that boat- trying to keep your head above water, doing your best to keep the doors open, trying to stay passionate when the numbers aren’t adding up- these are the 20 things I’d do RIGHT NOW to reinvent my business and actually start making money again.

Let’s get into it. ⬇️

1. Stop, pause, and take inventory of what’s broken- and what’s breaking me.

First step: brutal honesty. What’s draining my time, my energy, or my bank account? Before I fix the systems, I’d address WHAT IS working- and what’s working against me. You can’t move forward towards a solution until you figure out what’s blocking you from moving forward or seeing different results.

2. Unfollow every competitor whose feed makes me feel behind or second-guess myself.

Social media is TOXIC. I know it’s an amazing and NECESSARY marketing tool for your business, but there needs to be BOUNDARIES or else social media will drain you and make you feel like a loser. You need clarity and peace, not comparison. My energy is too precious to waste on spirals of self-doubt, and so is yours.

3. Rewrite my vision.

Who do I really wanna to serve? What kind of life am I building? And most importantly- what does success look like for me now in this MOMENT of time? Because let’s face it… what worked before might not be aligned anymore.

4. Audit my products and services.

What’s selling? What’s profitable? What’s just sitting there costing me time, ingredients, or energy? If it isn’t bringing in MONEY- then it’s gotta go.

5. Stop trying to be the best-kept secret.

If no one knows about you, no one can pay you. I’d stop waiting to be discovered and start going to where my ideal customer hangs out. Stop waiting for people to magically find you and be audacious.

6. Fix my website so it’s brain-dead simple.

Too many business owners are losing sales because their websites are too difficult to navigate or just make zero sense.  If a customer has to work hard to buy from me? I’m losing money every day. If you have no idea where to start, then click here and learn how to build a website that turns casual browsers into PAYING customers.

7. Start selling stories and testimonials- daily.

Forget pushing my products onto my customers every single day. People don’t wanna feel like they’re being SOLD too 24/7. Instead, I’d lean into social proof: before/afters, customer wins, transformation stories. People buy because they feel connected and TRUST you.

8. Build my email and text list ASAP.

I’m not building my empire on rented land. Social media is cute, but if Instagram crashes tomorrow, I want to own my customer list and be able to connect with them in more ways than just social media.

9. DM every new follower with a gift- not a pitch.

Lead with value. I’d thank them, send them a freebie, or share a tip. It’s not just about sales- it’s about building a LASTING connection.

10. Create a low-barrier offer people can impulse buy.

Not everyone who just meets me is ready to hand over $500 for a signature program. But a $27, $47, or $97 offer that solves a small problem fast? ABSOLUTELY. You have to learn to date your customers BEFORE you throw a huge price tag at them.

11. Set up automated follow-ups for every inquiry.

Because following up manually is exhausting, time-consuming, and inconsistent. I’d build automations that follow up for me so I never leave money on the table and ensure I’m creating an amazing experience for my customers!

12. Raise my prices if my profit margin is trash.

This isn’t a charity. If I’m selling out but still broke, the math ain’t mathing. Higher cost of goods means I have to adjust, too. Don’t be afraid to raise your prices; this is a BUSINESS. It should be treated as such. If you’re scared to raise your prices, here are 7 steps I live by!

13. Stop chasing trends and start listening to what MY people want.

Just because it’s trending doesn’t mean it’s profitable or will work for your unique business. I’d stop trying to go viral and start solving real problems for my real customers.

14. Partner with people who already have my audience.

Strategic collabs are everything. I’d look for other brands, vendors, small businesses, or creators who serve the same people I do- and find a way to collaborate.

15. Run a small smart ad to my top-performing post.

Boosting random posts is like burning money. I’d promote what already resonates with my ideal audience. Test small, scale smart.

16. Get in rooms where my dream clients hang out.

Whether it’s local markets, networking events, or high-level communities- I’d go where the right people are already hanging out.

17. Block time on my calendar every week to SELL, not just “work on my business.”

Not just planning. Not just content. Sales activity. Follow-ups, offers, conversions- this is what moves the money needle and adds more to my bank account.

18. Start telling people how they can work with me and WHY they should.

No more vague “DM me” captions. I’d say: “Here’s what I offer, who it’s for, how it works, and how to book.” Simple sells.

19. Keep only the products and activities that are profitable and energizing.

If it’s robbing me of my joy and not making money, it’s dead weight. I’d choose products that feed both my bank account and my purpose so my business doesn’t feel like another job but something that actually ADDS to my life.

20. Repeat what works- even if it feels boring.

You don’t need new everything.  You need consistency. I’d find what’s working, double down, and ride that strategy until it stops converting, then pivot.

If you walk away with anything from this blog, let it be this…
