6 MONEY TIPS THAT CHANGED OUR LIVES!

Aug 10, 2021

Do you have a good relationship with money?

This is a question that can be difficult to answer for some because they don’t even know what their relationships with money is like.

They may be like me and Eddie back in 2005 when we were both bringing home six figures, overspending, and not saving.

Or they might be hoarding their money with the fear that they’ll never have enough to cover the life they want to live.

The reason we’re bringing this up is because your mindset around money is either propelling you or halting you in life.

Here’s a breakdown of what Eddie and I discussed…

  • Eddie’s gold chain (01:18)
  • How’s your relationship with money? (09:10)
  • How filing for bankruptcy was the turning point for us (16:56)
  • What did your parents teach you about money? (23:17)
  • Set specific financial goals (26:09)
  • Every dollar has a job (30:09)
  • Discipline is the ultimate freedom (33:24)
  • Learn how to earn money (34:06)
  • Leverage your credit (42:10)
  • Start your kids off early (46:23)

Most of us learn about money from our home, our parents, and those who surround us while growing up. But the truth is that some of the lessons we picked up won’t lead us to financial freedom.

If you grew up around individuals that spend money frivolously, you may be more likely to spend your money on unnecessary things; versus if you grew up in a household that was always tight on money, you may have picked-up on the importance of saving and the value of a dollar.

This is why it’s so important to understand your relationship around money so you can get a better grasp around your spending habits and how to create financial freedom in your life.

For us, Eddie and I were not always good with money early on in our marriage. Despite both of us earning a decent salary, we always found ourselves late on payments and living paycheck to paycheck.

Undoubtedly, this brought about feelings of anxiety, anger, and shame and caused a strain in our marriage. But the worst was yet to come…..

When the financial crisis of 2007-08 hit, we both lost our jobs and had to file for bankruptcy, pull our kids out of gymnastics, daycare, and had to figure out how to pay for a $5,000 mortgage, two cars, and all the other bills we had on top of that.

In hindsight, we can now say that this was a blessing in disguise because we were forced to look at our relationship with money and gain knowledge around our financial education.

So listen in to hear our 6 money tips that changed our lives and helped us go from broke to woke!
