Tradition vs. Progression- The Crown vs. Megan Markle

Have you ever seen The Crown on Netflix? Long story short, The Crown is about Queen Elizabeth’s rise to power and the traditions that come with being in the monarchy.

The reason we’re talking about The Crown is because with the Megan Markle and Prince Harry interview coming out and creating so much buzz around the royal family, plus with my newly found obsession with The Crown, it sparked a conversation between Eddie and I about tradition and progression.

We’re firm believers in tradition, especially when it comes to holidays. On the other hand, we’re huge on progression and continually growing as individuals and as a family. At some point in life, you’re forced to recognize when tradition no longer fits your beliefs and morals and that’s when progression comes into play. But when tradition begins to threaten progress and your growth as an individual, that’s a sign that it may be time to move on and push tradition to the side.

As we’ve gotten older, we’ve come to realize that we’ve shaped the traditions of our kids, not only with physical traditions but also through the way we speak to one another, through our actions, and through what we find acceptable and what we don’t. Those habits and conversations that we have, have shaped them into who they’re going to be but also who they’re going to allow in and out of their life; whether on a friendship level or romantically.

Now being in 2021, we don’t know what this year is going to bring. We don’t know what events will happen or what technology is going to come around, but what we all know is that we’ll continue moving forward through life because life progresses with or without us. It’s just a matter of allowing yourself to welcome in new ideas and opportunities for growth.
